چکیده

The potential of differential SAR interferometry for land subsidence monitoring is reported on. The principle of the technique and the approach to be used on a specific case are first presented. Then significant results using SAR data from the ERS satellites for various sites in Germany, Mexico, and Italy, representing fast (mlyear) to slow (mmlyear) deformation velocities, are discussed. The SAR interferometric dis~lacement maps are'validated with available leveling data. he accuracy of the subsidence maps produced, the huge SAR data archive starting in 1991, the expected continued availability of SAR data, and the maturity of the required processing techniques lead to the conclusion that differential SAR interferometry is suitable for operational monitoring of land subsidence.

Differential Sar Interferometry for Land Subsidence Monitoring: Methodology and Examples

In recent years significant progress was achieved in SAR interferometry. In this paper we report on the potential of differential SAR interferometry to map land subsidence. After a presentation of the methodology the focus will be on feasibility demonstration and accuracy assessment. The theoretical considerations are verified with the selected cases Ruhrgebiet, Mexico City, Bologna, and Eugane...

Mine Subsidence Monitoring by JERS-1 SAR Interferometry

Differential SAR Interferometry (D-InSAR) is an effective tool in monitoring land subsidence because of its greater coverage area and better resolution of height change. A series of Japanese Earth Resources Satallite-1 (JERS-1) images from 1992 to 1998 has been used in monitoring the mine subsidence in the test site of this study, one of the important coal mining areas in China. D-InSAR procedu...

Land Subsidence Mapping with Ers Interferometry: Evaluation of Maturity and Operational Readiness

Differential SAR interferometry with ERS data has a high potential for surface displacement mapping in the mm to m range. Such displacement information is of interest for the monitoring of phenomena as land subsidence, land slides, earthquakes, volcano swelling, and ice motion. In this contribution the maturity and operational readiness of the SAR interferometric technique are discussed, focusi...

Detection of Urban Land Subsidence in the City of Turku in Finland Using Differential Sar Interferometry

The centre of the Turku city by the river of Aurajoki in Finland has been built on clay and silt soil. The level of the ground water has been constantly lowering during the last few centuries due to the postglacial land uplift and extensive water usage leaving the old wooden pilework exposed to decaying. The decaying has led to the subsidence of some historical buildings in the old centre of Tu...
